Influence of chloride on volatile DBPs formation in swimming pools

Chlorination is the most common method for disinfection of recreational water. However,it is also known to react with aqueous constituents to yield disinfection by-products (DBPs).In previous work,we have reported several volatile N-DBPs that are formed in swimming pools as a result of reactions between free chlorine and organic-N precursors that are present in swimming pool water. However, influence of chloride, which is normally present in high concentration in swimming pools, was ignored, and relatively little information is available to describe the dependence of chloride concentration.
