Importance of TiO2 defects for its photocatalytic activity towards degradation of organic pollutants in water
Revision of TiO2 by altering its defects is commonly practiced to further improve the photocatalytic activity towards degradation of organic pollutants in waster.Previous studies show that doping metal ions or metal oxides serve to enhance the TiO2 photocatalytic activity. The running offofthe foreign substances into the target water, however, poses a concern. In this study,it was evidenced that heat treatment of conventional TiO2 powders by some gases such as H2 also produced defects to improve the photocatalytic activity, free of concern of introduction of foreign substances into the target system.
