EFFECTS OF GEOGRID ON THE STABILITY OF LANDFILL COVER SYSTEM
The stability of landfill has become a critical factor during the design and construction of a landfill. The geomembrane is widely used as a barrier to leachate and rainwater. There have been many slip failures along the interface between soil and geomembrane in the cover system due to the low shear strength of interfaces and rainfall. To enhance the stability of cover system,a geogrid is usually installed in the cover soil in practical. In order to learn the effects of geogrid on the stability of cover system,a numerical analysis is conducted in this paper. The influence of the position of geogrid on the effects is also investigated. The results show that the presence of a geogrid in the cover soil can reduce the mobilised tensile force in the geomembrane and the mobilised interface displacement between the cover soil and the geomembrane. The beneficial effect of the geogrid is dependent on its position and the best position of the geogrid is in the half thickness of the cover soil.
