MECHANICAL MODEL FOR WATER RETENTION,SEEPAGE,DEFORMATION BEHAVIORS OF UNSATURATED SOIL

The soil mechanics is proposed, which is based on mechanical and probabilistic consideration and much different from the conventional soil mechanics.Soil mass and soil particle are regarded as a population and sample in inferential statistics respectively. For the soil particle structure the diameter of soil particle and the contact angle at contact point are adopted as random variables and their probability density functions are introduced. For the pore structure the elementary particulate model in which the diameter and inclination angle are regarded as random variables is introduced. Then the procedures to derive the stress ~ strain relation,soil-water characteristic curve and permeability coefficients with respect to air and water is shown for unsaturated-saturated soil.
