LIQUEFACTION OF SOIL BENEATH DETACHED HOUSES USING ON-LINE PSEUDO-DYNAMIC RESPONSE TESTS

Since the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011,much focus has been placed on soil liquefaction beneath small scale buildings such as detached houses, and thus construction methods to prevent liquefaction or lessen damage have gained attention. However, currently there are no proven techniques or construction methods to mitigate liquefaction damage to structures such as detached houses. This study confirms the liquefaction controlling and seismic isolation effects due to ground improvement using recycled tire chips beneath the foundation of a residential building,by using on-line pseudo-dynamic response tests. This type of test consists of a simultaneous simple shear element test and an earthquake response experiment.
