LABORATORY INVESTIGATION ON EFFECTS OF NEARBY CONSTRUCTION OF PARALLEL PIPE-JACKED TUNNELS
Grouting in pipe-jacked tunnelling maybe leads to ground movement.Laboratory tests are conducted to investigate the effects of nearby construction of parallel pipe-jacked tunnels.A new pipeline is jacked in the middle of two existed pipelines by considering different conditions of grouting. The variations of jacking force, vertical movement of soil and the influence on the existed pipelines during the new pipeline s jacking are obtained. The results show that with the increase of jacking distance, jacking force firstly increases then decreases gradually, and the ground is upheaved; the new pipeline has a limited influence on the soil above the existed pipelines; grouting is effective in decreasing the resistance while jacking.Slurry spreads on the outer surface of pipeline and into the surrounding soil which makes the soil expanded and this would trigger the larger ground movement with grouting than without. These results can guide the nearby parallel pipelines construction effectively.
