SITE INVESTIGATION FOR D-RUNWAY PROJECT AT TOKYO HANEDA AIRPORT

The 4th runway, named as D-runway, was constructed from March 2007 to October 2010 in Tokyo Haneda Airport.Because some part of the D-runway is located in a river mouth,a hybrid structure consisted of piled pier section and reclamation fill section was adopted. This paper describes the outline of the hybrid structure,cross-sectional geological stratigraphy, and new-technologies used in the reclamation section.Undisturbed clay samples retrieved from the seabed were examined in the laboratory to evaluate their geotechnical properties. At the sandy layers, the standard penetration test was conducted to evaluate N-value.From the results of the site investigation, the stratigraphy at the site was clarified. Some local soil properties, which are tended to be overlooked from only an engineering point of view, can be appropriately captured by linking the geological and geotechnical information.
