Safety inspection of an Overhead Crane based on Virtual Simulation
Safety inspection was playing a very important role in controlling accidents of overhead cranes, especially under the modification case.During a modification of a crane, strength evaluation was a necessary step.Experimental stress analysis and theoretical calculation were traditionally applied in rerating the strength, but it cost lots of time and resources.Virtual simulation was an alternative method, and in this investigation finite element method was adopted. The three dimension models of bridge and trolley were built while the rated load was changed to the modification case, and then stress-strain analysis was performed. In order to validate the results of virtual simulations, practical load tests were carried out in accordance with the virtual simulations.By comparison,it indicated that the results of virtual simulations were precise, and finite element method could be applied in safety inspection instead of practical load tests.
