Systems-nutrition:Innovation of the scientific system in animal nutrition
The traditional scientific system in animal nutrition has been existed for about 100 years,but there were no any substantive changes so far.With the lapse of time,the limitations of the traditional scientific system have been more and more revealed.The times are calling innovation on the traditional scientific system.Since the late 1980s,our group started to attempt to use system science principles and approaches in animal nutrition researches.In 2004,An Introduction to Systems-Nutrition of Animals written by Prof.Lu De-Xun was published in China,which marked the birth of this scientific system in animal nutrition and the beginning of the period of further development of systems-nutrition of animals.System-nutrition is defined as one of branches in biological science,which is engaged in system-level understanding and studying integrative picture of flux,metabolism,utilization and regulation of nutrients from dietary and endogenous originsin the whole animal nutritional system at organism-organs-tissues-cells-molecules levels,to achieve some goals,such as nutritional manipulation and prediction as well as optimum feeding decision,and to organize designing and carrying out nutritional engineering programs for animal feeding.Simply,System-nutrition can be defined as the animal nutrition which is understudied and studied under guiding of system science and approach.In this review.I introduced overviews of systems-nutrition advanced by myself in 2004 and of most recent developments,including theoretical researches in the microcosmic nutrition field;researches of theory of nutrient balance at multiple levels; developments of nutricinomicsproducts and techniques,and developments of integrated techniques system for animal nutrition engineering.Finally,prospects of the developments of systems-nutrition of animals in the future were presented.
