LOW-CARBON DESIGN BY MULTILAYER STRUCTURE EVOLUTION
Low-carbon design is a new topic of product design with the carbon emissions in its life cycle considered.Different measures could be taken in the design stage to reduce the carbon emission of products. This paper studied the method to realize low-carbon design by structure evolution.Connection structure units and function structure units were defined as the variation operation units with which the structure of product can be expressed in a multilayer form and easier for carbon emission evaluation.By analysing each structure unit and collecting the related information in its life cycle the carbon emissions can be mapped to the structure.Five kinds of variation rules based on the structure variation units were given for low-carbon design.A novel method of evaluating the emissions factors relatively was proposed with which the carbon emissions can be compared to ensure the structure variation scheme was low-carbon.Finally,an example of an air compressor validates the feasibility of the method proposed in the paper.
