NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF WEAR IN A CENTRIFUGAL AIR COMPRESSOR IMPELLER AND REPAIR

  By applying Reynolds time-averaged control equations,standard two-equation turbulent model,discrete phase model and ductile materials erosion model,based on Lagrangian tracking of solid particles motion trajectories in a gassolid flow,unsteady numerical simulation is adopted to study the roles of erosion wear and fatigue wear on blade pressure surface in the centrifugal air compressor.According to the simulation results,the most serious erosion wear and fatigue wear part in impeller is on blade pressure surface.The erosion wear area on blade pressure surface caused by particles impacting primarily is located on blade trailing edge root and middle part.The fatigue wear area on blade pressure surface caused by periodic alternating stress of gas impacting primarily is located on blade leading edge,and the fatigue wear on blade trailing edge part is also quite serious.It has a great prospect to use laser cladding technology to repair the failed part in impeller or to enhance the performance of impeller.The results of numerical simulation explain some actual impeller failure cases and can be applied to anti-wear impeller design and repair.
