PERFORMANCE EVALUATION FOR COMPOSITES BASED ON RECYCLED POLYPROPYLENE USING PCA & CA
In this paper, principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis (CA) were used to evaluate composites based on recycled polypropylene (PP),with talcum powder (talc) as the main filler and maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene (MAPP) as a compatibilizer. Two PP-based industrial composites used for making automobile parts were also used as comparatives. The composites were blended by a twin screw extruder, pelletized, injected moulded into ISO standard sample specimens, and then their mechanical behaviors were tested in accordance with ISO standards. All these results were evaluated employing PCA and HCA with the purpose of determining the clustered internal relationships of multiple mechanical properties and evaluating the overall performances of the composites. The results revealed that both virgin and recycled plastics can be improved by the addition of fillers,as some properties were even better than those of industrial composites.
