Sensitivity of WRF precipitation simulation to the microphysics schemes:Results from the SoWMEX IOP-8 Case
The heavy rainfall event on 14-15 June 2008,also categorized as the IOP-8 case, during the SoWMEX/TiMREX field experiment is investigated in this study. The precipitation simulation results using the WRF (Weather Research and Forecasting)model nested down to 1.67 km are compared with the observations from NCAR S-POL and NCU TEAM-R radars during the Mei-Yu frontal system near Taiwan area.Four dimensional data assimilation (FDDA; nudging relaxation) is used on the coarse grids (with grid sizes of 5,15,and 45 km) to capture the large and synoptic-scale forcings.Four microphysics schemes (including the WSM6,WDM6,Thompson,and Morrison) are chosen to compare the simulated microphysics structures.
