The study on membrane fouling mechanism of model EPS in different cations
In this paper,Microfiltration (MF) and Ultrafiltration (UF) membranes were tested with the solutions model EPS,which contained Sodium Alginate (SA),Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) and Humic Acid (HA),mixed with NaCl,CaCl2,AlCl3 solution in an unstirred dead-end ultrafiltration cell. The results showed that calcium ion and aluminum ion can improved permeate flux and reduced the resistances, while sodium ion has no significant influence on that. The dominant fouling mechanism are cake formation for the model EPS with the presence of Na+,Ca2+,Al3+ in ultrafiltation, and as for microfiltration process the best models was much complex for different solutions. It was also found that with increasing concentration of calcium and alum ions, the decline of permeate flux become more slowly and the specific cake resistance is gradually being small in ultrafiltration.
