Characterization of PM10-bound polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in urban air of Haerbin, China

PM10 samples were collected at five sampling sites in city center of Haerbin from April 2008 to January 2009.The ambient concentrations of 17 selected polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in PM10 were quantified.Spatial and seasonal variations of PAHs were characterized.Average total concentration of 17 selected PAHs at the five sites was 161.26 ng/m3,and the dominant PAHs were PA,FL,Pyr,Ant,BaA,CHR,IND and BaP accounting for above 80% of 17 selected PAHs.Average concentration of individual PAHs in the whole sampling time varied from 0.45 (NaP) to 33.17 (PA) ng/m3.Higher PAHs concentrations in heating period and lower concentrations in no-heating period were observed at the five sampling sites, which may be caused by the stronger emissions from stationary combustion sources in heating period, and the weak source emissions, the quicker air dispersion, washout effects,photo-degradation and higher percentage in the air in vapor phase in no-heating period.
