Contents of Pb, Zn, Cd, As and S in the Dominant Plants from Abandoned Farmland around Lead/zinc Smelter in Gejiu, Southwest China
A field survey of lead (Pb),zinc (Zn),cadmium (Cd),arsenic (As) and sulfur (S) contents in the dominant plants of 10 species,included Zae may L.grown in abandoned farmland around a Pb/Zn smelter was conducted in Gejiu City,Yunnan Province,Southwest China.(1) The average contents ofPb,Zn,Cd and As in the plants shoot were 300.7,262.0,16.7 and 46.1 mg/kg,and which in plants root were 759.9,414.2,26.6 and 115.1 mg/kg,respectively.The contents maximum of Pb,Zn,Cd and As in the plants shoot were up to 506.0,349.8,35.1 and 81.8 mg/kg,and which in plants root were 776.0,2972.1,104.8 and 303.9 mg/kg,respectively.(2) The contents of Pb,Zn,Cd and As in the grain of Zae may L.were 48.9,114.9,1.2 and 0.4 mg/kg,in the shoot were 231.5,305.5,13.0 and 75.5 mg/kg,and in the root were 411.3,313.9,19.0 and 134.3 mg/kg,respectively.The heavy metal content in the grain of Zae may L.around the Pb/Zn smelter was exceeded the official standards.(3) The average S contents were 0.232% and 0.165% dry weight in plants shoot and root respectively and the maximum value of which was 0.318 % dry weight in shoot of Zea mays L.(4)Very positively significant correlation between S and Zn contents (r=0.856,P<0.01),significant correlation between S and Pb contents (r=0.727,P<0.05) in plants root was observed.These results indicated S played an important role on the heavy metals accumulation by wild plants in heavy metals contaminated lands.
