Mercury Pollution on Soil and Air in an Artisanal Gold Mine in China

In order to master the laws on the mercury pollution in Jiapigou gold mine exploited since 1820,in situ air and soil Hg concentrations and soil/air Hg flux had been measured from April 2009 to December 2011.The results showed the gaseous Hg concentrations (TGM) were of remarkable spatial and temporal distribution laws. The TGM gradually decreased following the increase in distance to gold mines in space, and in spring, summer and autumn it was elevated by 1-2 orders of magnitude compared to that in winter. However, the soil Hg concentrations (TSM) in spring were higher than those in autumn. As the seasons change, the soil/air Hg flux was impacted obviously by environmental and meteorological factors and the characteristics of them were of significant difference.
