From the First Single-chip White LED to Laser Processed Ⅲ-N Thin-film LEDs

　　Key to todays solid state lighting was the invention of the single-chip white LED in 1996,based on the luminescence conversion principle.In this paper a brief overview will be given over some of the development steps which were necessary to progress from the first 5 mm radial white luminescence conversion LED to state-of-the-art high-power high-brightness LED light engines for solid state lighting.
