LED Technologies for Breakthrough In Performance and Cost
With the rapid increase in LED adoption across an extremely broad range of lamps and luminaires each with multiple SKUs,the range of LED solutions needed to support the market needs is exploding.This is leading to an increasing diversity in LED,LED array and LED module solutions,to meet lumen outputs up to 5000 lumens,at efficacies up to 150lm/W.As performance can be traded off for cost,the greatest opportunity and challenges are at the high performance end.This has inspired many different solution spaces to be explored by LED vendors including growth substrates,device architectures,phosphors,and packages.We review some of the fundamental breakthrough technologies under development and define which have disruption potential by being volume manufacturable.
