HEALTH INFORMATION SYSTEMS (HIS) AND HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (HIT) IMPACT ON THAILAND UNIVERSAL COVERAGE SCHEME (UCS) IMPLEMENTATION
Background: Thailand achieved universal healthcare coverage when the country implemented the Universal Coverage Scheme (UCS) in 2001. The UCS was remarkable for its speedy implementation and has improved access to necessary health services, improved equity of service utilization and prevented medical impoverishment of Thai citizens. Thailand is one of the developing economies where the use of information communication technology (ICT) in health information systems is pervasive. The country’s computerized healthcare service reporting systems and the case-mix information system have been developed before the implementation of the UCS.
