CONSTRUCTION OF AN INTEGRATED ELECTROCARDIOGRAM DATABASE FOR SURVEILLANCE OF DRUG-INDUCED QT PROLONGATION

Using electrocardiogram (ECG) parameters from a number of ECG data sources, an ECG database was constructed for surveillance of QT interval prolongation induced by marketed drugs. The ECG data were collected from three hospital data sources: scanned ECG printouts, an ECG management system, and an electronic health records system. In total, 0.7 million blinded ECG records were captured from 0.4 million individual patients. Optical character recognition (OCR) and Web-parsing techniques were used to extract the ECG parameters. By using OCR and Web parsing, a significant number of ECG records from daily practice could be successfully transferred into an ECG database.
