INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING EDUCATION AND TRAINING IN SEVERAL UNIVERSITIES IN THE UNITED STATES AND OUR IMPROVEMENT IDEAS
In a world increasingly influenced by scientific and technological innovation, engineers provide important leadership to society by creating, applying and managing complex technology.Engineering education plays an important role in order to produce graduates with a foundation in fundamental engineering principles coupled with the depth of specialized disciplinary training needed to succeed in a career in engineering or related fields.In recent years we visited some universities in US, especially engineering schools.This paper present the curriculum plan of some departments in engineering schools, explains some course descriptions and requirements in detail.Such as Engineering Design is included in each semester of four years study in Stevens Institute of Technology, from the design spine to the capstone senior design project, where knowledge from the classroom is applied to a major design project, students will gain practical, hands-on experience.The majority of senior design projects is sponsored, mentored, or developed in collaboration with a parmer in industry.We also introduce some training programs and projects in different universities.Based on our experience, we propose some ideas of improvement in domestic universities.
