Balancing Local-Global R & D Activities:What SMEs Could Learn from Multinationals?

　　In this article we will provide insights on how SME executives can learn from multinationals to balance the local and global r & d activities.First,we will discuss the trade-offs that SMEs are faced as they try to balance global needs against local needs when it comes to R & D.Then we will examine the three levers SME executives can use to achieve that balance:local market oriented product portfolio strategies,global product platforms,and cross-fuctional governance instruments.We will also provide examples of SMEs which chanllenged this situation successfully.
