What Small Firms Should Know and Do About Managing Its Human Resources?
Scholars stress the notion that small firms are disadvantaged concerning managing their human resource.They even advice small firms to apply the knowledge of classical human resource functions in firms.It is the objective of this paper to defend the peculiarity of smallness in managing human resource.New small firms are different in nature than large well established organizations.Accordingly,managing employees in small firms is different,and it is hard to follow the same systems in large organizations.Small firms have great latent strengths which they should capitalize on.Owners and managers are usually familiar with their own employees,so they understand the nature,personality,needs and personal background of each employee.This fact gives owners and managers the informality and flexibility of managing human recourse.They can make decisions about raises,promotions,time-off and training quickly and on an informal and flexible way.This conceptual paper is based on literature review to defend the advantages of small firms in managing human resource.The objective of this paper is extended to enhance the awareness of small firms about what they should know and do about managing their human resource.
