Determinants of Entrepreneurship in Emerging Economies A Comparative Study of Brazil and China
This paper analyses the impact of five socio-cultural determinants of entrepreneurship on Brazil and China. All these determinants—impact of networking, opportunity to start a new business, skill levels, entrepreneurship as a career choice, and social media come out to be significant factors in a rigorous statistical analysis conducted on a large data base.On the whole, respondents from China are more likely to be impacted positively by the existence of these variables.Gender has no bearing on the setting up of new entrepreneurial venture. But the younger respondents are more likely to start a new venture. The results confirm that the existence of positive socio-cultural factors do impact on the choice of entrepreneurial route.Policy implications are that emerging economies such as Brazil and China would do well to pay attention to these variables in addition to emphasising on economic and infrastructural factors.
