Healthy Monitoring of Concrete Bridges and Vehicle Loads Correlation Analysis Based on Acoustic Emission

  In recent years,with the development of digital acoustic emission (AE) system and the improvement of signal analysis,acoustic emission technique is more and more used in dynamic process research of compression and tension,impact,fatigue,crack,fracture in materials and structures.In previous healthy monitoring of concrete bridges using acoustic emission,for lack of correlation analysis of vehicle loads during monitoring period,it is hard to decide the form of acoustic emission when vehicles cross the bridge.This paper first combines acoustic emission technique with dynamic monitoring of vehicle loads in healthy monitoring of structures,studies the feasibility of applying acoustic emission technique to existing concrete bridges,discusses characteristic forms of acoustic emission when vehicles cross the bridge.The monitored bridge is a typical highway concrete bridge of low box girder.Sensors were located on the web,deck plate and bottom plate of the box girder,weigh-in-motion system (WIM system) was located in the pavement of bridgehead.The two systems clock was set synchronizedly,so they could monitor the acoustic emission and the weight,velocity of vehicles when cross the bridge at the same time.Based on the analysis of recorded data in 24 hours,the forms of acoustic emission signals and the influencing factors were decided,the response characteristics of acoustic emission in different locations of the box girder were detected.Then the correlation of vehicles dynamic load and acoustic emission signals was studied,datum reference of concrete bridges in good condition when under the vehicle loads is decided,which laid foundation for further monitoring and evaluation of concrete bridges by acoustic emission.
