Mechanical Properties Test of Bedded Rock Salt and Its Applications
Standard specimens are processed from the typical rock salt of China.Series tests, including uniaxial compression test,tri-axial compression test,Brazilian splitting tensile test, and tri-axial creep test, etc.,are carried out to obtain the property parameters of specimens.Meanwhile, numerical models of salt cavern gas storage in bedded rock salt formation are established based on the experimental results and formation logs. The safety factor of cavern roof is studied according to the actual working conditions.Test results show the failure of bedded rock salt belongs to I-type failure, which means the bedded rock salt specimen can still withstand some loads after yielding loads.Shear failures are presented at the interface of rock salt and mudstone, and the dilatancies are taken place at rock salt in the damages of bedded rock salt specimens. The tensile strength of mudstone is biggest, then followed by bedded rock salt and rock salt. The creep deformation of bedded rock salt is mainly determined by salt.Numerical simulation results indicate that cavern roof safety factor decreases with the increase of burred depth and roof span, and increases with increasing Youngs modulus of roof overlying non-salt layer, while the thicknesses of roof salt and roof overlying non-salt layer have little effect on it.
