The measurement and analysis of rock fracture toughness under mode Ⅰ and mode Ⅱ
Unstable rock has threatened peoples life and possession safety. So it has great significance to study types and instability conditions of unstable rock.Crack that propagates along controlled planes caused by loads is a key factor for failure of perilous rock.During the experiment, cracked chevron notched Brazilian disc (CCNBD) specimen configuration was used to test the fracture toughness under mode Ⅰ and mixed mode conditions. And the size effect of CCNBD specimens on fracture toughness is discussed based on chevron crack mode Ⅰ.Furthermore mode Ⅰ fracture toughness of CSTBD specimens have been calculated by finite element software, then reliability of numerical solution is analyzed. All mode II fracture toughness has been calculated using a numerical method. The numerical results indicate that the mode-Ⅱ fracture toughness is related to both crack length and the loading angle.
