The effect of temperature on the segregation and deformation mechanism of α+Ti2Cu alloy during semi-solid forging

The segregation behavior and deformation mechanism of Ti14,a new typical α+Ti2Cu alloy, during semi-solid forging at different temperatures were investigated. The results reveal that temperature affect the content and distribution of liquid phase, more segregated and motivated to grain boundaries at higher temperature during the forging, which changed distribution of Ti2Cu on grain boundaries from discontinuous to continuous. The varieties of the grain boundary morphology led to transition of deformation mechanism from plastic deformation of solid to sliding between solid particles. Moreover, the macrosegregation of liquid and solid during the semi-solid forging was observed, and discussed by phenomenological model.
