The effect of manganese and nickel segregation on allotriomorph ferrite nucleation in austenite grain boundary
The effect of manganese and nickel segregation on allotriomorph ferrite nucleation from austenite grain boundary was investigated. The chemical compositions of steels were Fe-0.3C-1Mn and Fe-0.3C-1Ni (mass%).These steels had the same Ae3 temperature calculated by Thermo-calc.The steels were transformed at the same temperature. The number of nucleated ferrite from austenite grain boundary in Fe-C-Mn steel was less than that in Fe-C-Ni.Manganese and nickel segregations in austenite grain boundary were measured by aberration corrected STEM equipped with EDS.Both Mn and Ni were enriched in austenite grain boundary.Manganese exhibited higher enrichment than nickel. It is considered austenite grain boundary energy in Fe-C-Mn steel is lower than that in Fe-C-Ni steel,as the result, the nucleation rate in Fe-C-Mn is lower than in Fe-C-Ni.
