Evaluation of CO2 Emission Intensity of Steel Production Site
An energy efficiency or CO2 emission intensity of steel production site can be described by simple approach.By setting boundary, counting material flow in and out across the boundary, calculating energy amount consumed inside the boundary or CO2 emission out from the boundary, then by dividing by the activity index, total crude steel production for example, the efficiency or intensity is obtained. While the calculation is simple,it is well known that various results are obtained for various boundary conditions and conversion factors.ISO standardization of “Calculation method of CO2 emissions intensity from Iron and Steel production is conducted to establish universal methodology as ISO 14404.This calculation method only uses basic inputs and outputs, which are commonly measured and recorded, thus the method neither requires measurement of the processes nor complex material and energy flow within the steel works. Therefore it ensures the simplicity and universal applicability. In this paper, the methodology of the standard is introduced coupled with discussions on a concept of efficiency evaluation of production site.
