In situ observation of various reactions in steel processes using synchrotron radiation

We have developed in situ observation techniques for various reactions related to steel processes using synchrotron radiation, which are extremely bright and naturally collimated X-ray beams with a broad spectral range.Using the characteristics of synchrotron radiation,we have successfully obtained a range of information on reaction mechanisms through changes in nanoscale structures during reactions. We present typical examples focused on the impact of in situ observation on each process in the following systems: (a) corrosion (atmospheric and pitting) of steel,(b) recrystallization of electrical steel, and (c) formation of oxide film on titanium surfaces.Furthermore,I would like to present future applications of synchrotron radiation to various fields regarding steel and metals.
