New technical robe for process simulation of long products
Planning and implementation of modern production in plant strategies can no longer be imagined without simulations in almost all fields of long and flat steel production.Important reasons for this development amongst others are the thermo-mechanical rolling technologies, which have been increasingly used more and more in the past years. As a supplier of rolling mill technology mainly for long product quality steel,Friedrich Kocks GmbH & Co KG has developed the KMS–KOCKS Microstructure Simulator. This simulation software is based on a semi-empirical approach. It is foreseen to be used in bar and wire rod mills as well as in tube mills.Next to the individual temperature characteristics of a mill the KMS has its focus especially on the specific microstructure evolution.Herewith special attention was paid to the 3-roo technology, which has been successfully used by KOCKS for many years. The target was to develop an improved simulation model featuring an analytic model to calculate strain distribution for different reduction configurations and varieties of technological parameters,e.g.temperature,speed,pass geometry–in the deformation zone of a 3-roll pass.Based on the distribution of the strain modification and temperatures over the cross-section of the rolled product, microstructure simulation is carried out to get a realistic image of the micro-structural formation, especially of the recrystallisation processes over the cross-section.
