Developments and new product opportunities in electro-galvanizing of flat steel
Electro-galvanized (EG) steel sheets play an important role in automotive applications.Especially for outer panels and visible parts,electro-galvanizing is still widely used to ensure corrosion protection with its superior surface quality.Due to the progress in hot-dip galvanizing (HDG) that has been made during the last decades,todays modern continuous HDG lines serve the needs for best surface quality in the automotive sector as well.On the other hand,a continuous development in EG coating,e.g.additional functional surfaces did happen,as well.The present paper therefore will give a brief overview and highlight some examples for such developments on both the coating processes and new coating systems.The latter will focus on a new tribological post-treatment coating for EG-lines and a new zinc-alloy coating product for press hardening steels.
