Accelerated Carbide Spheroidisation and Refinement (ASR) of C45 Steel by Thermomechanical Treatment
Thermomechanical treatment allows rapid change of steel microstructure in very short time.The aim of presented research was to reduce grain size and spheroidise cementite in C45 steel.Fine grained ferritic matrix with homogenously dispersed globular carbides is favorable in terms of mechanical properties (enhanced proof stress without decrease of ductility and toughness).However,conventional carbon steel structure contains lamellar pearlite.ASR process changes stell microstructure in seconds or tens of seconds refining ferritic grain and spheroidising cementite.Desired microstructure was achieved by deformation at temperature close to critical temperature Ac1.
