Energy Optimized Electrical Drive Solutions for Rolling Mills
The efficient use of energy was always Siemens maxim and is today more urgent then ever.This contribution is dealing with the possibilities of optimization of the electrical drive system regarding the efficiency of energy use: How to minimize the energy losses through selection of the drive system components as well as by operating method.Therefore different items will be discussed e.g.the influence of the selection of motor types for main motors of rolling mills (synchronous motors or induction motors),the usage of an Active Front End in order to avoid losses caused by reactive power,energy savings with speed controlled pumps and the usage of high energy efficient motors according the newest standard.Examples of typical mill types show the potential of these measures like Hot Strip Mills or Tandem Cold Mills.
