Optimum Hot Blast Stove Design
The traditional concept for designing hot blast stoves has been to aim for the minimum size that will deliver the required hot blast temperature and volume. This technique provides the minimum capital expenditure for the stove project. However, this concept results in the highest ongoing operational costs with increased enrichment gas usage and lowest stove thermal efficiency. With the current emphasis on reducing fuel costs and CO2 emissions, stove design efforts are changing to optimize fuel consumption and operating costs versus capital cost to develop the lowest life cycle cost. The paper will examine several examples illustrating this stove design concept.
