The direct cementite formation from magnetite under high pressure condition
The effects of pressure on the formation of Fe3C from Fe3O4 were investigated.The kinetics of Fe3C formation from Fe3O4 powder was gravimetrically measured in CO-CO2 mixtures at 1023K with varying the total pressure of 0.1 to 1.0MPa.The carburization of the single crystal magnetite was also carried out at 773K under the pressure of the 0.5MPa.The formed interface between Fe3O4 and the reacted layer was examined by TEM and metallic Fe was not observed at the interface region.Based on these experimental results,the direct conversion to Fe3C from magnetite was confirmed.
