Study on Microstructures and Properties of Low Carbon Ti-Nb-Mo Micro-alloyed Steel by Ultra Fast Cooling Process

The new generation TMCP based on Ultra Fast Cooling (UFC),which has much more advantages in grain refinement and the second phase particles, has been used in developing the hot rolled High Strength Steel (HSS).Low Carbon Ti-Nb-Mo Micro-alloyed Steel using Ultra Fast Cooling process in hot rolled experiments was studied, the influence of coiling temperature and cooling rate on microstructure and properties of HSS microalloyed with Ti,Nb,Mo by means of optical microscope (OM),scanning electron microscope (SEM),transmission electron microscope(TEM),Tensile and impact testing machine was also studied. The results showed that the microstructure of specimens was composed of ferrite and a small amount of pearlite, and large quantity of nano-precipitates (about 5nm in diameter) could be found in ferrite matrix. The excellent overall properties of test steels can be obtained when the coiling temperature was either 460℃ or 630℃,but it was lower when the coiling temperature was 570℃.When the cooling rate increased from 20℃/s to 45℃/s,the yield strength and tension strength improved 25MPa and 30MPa respectively, while the toughness and the elongation were excellent enough. Therefore, the strength of HSS can be improved obviously by Ultra Fast Cooling process.
