Crystallization Kinetics and Continuous Cooling Transformation(CCT)Diagram of Molten Blast Furnace Slag

  Blast furnace slag is one of the most abundant solid by-products in steel plants,thus recycling of slag is always one of the most important issues for steel plants.The use of blast furnace slag is associated closely with the cooling methods of molten slag.So the crystallization kinetics and continuous cooling transformation (CCT) diagram of a molten blast furnace slag were investigated in this paper.Samples of molten slag were continuously cooled in a differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) equipment.The continuous cooling crystallization kinetics was investigated using Kissinger method based on DSC data.It is shown that the obtained values of crystallization activation energy during cooling,1969±490 kJ/mol for gehlenite and 1021±25 kJ/mol for akermanite,are much higher than those reported during heating.A kinetic model that describes the evolution of degree of crystallization with time was obtained.The CCT diagram of the blast furnace slag was constructed according to crystallization kinetic model and experimental data.The obtained CCT diagram characterizes with two crystallization noses at different temperature ranges.
