Fractal Characteristics of Carbon Element Distribution along Casting Direction in Continuous Casting Billet

The carbon element distributions along casting direction at centerline position,V-shaped segregation band and CET position in continuous casting billet have been first obtained by the OPA technology (Original Position Statistic Distribution Analysis).Different points at a certain position were formed along the opposite direction of casting direction with the lapse of the time,so the carbon mass fractions of different points at a certain position can be considered as a time series. For the reason that the Hurst exponents and the corresponding fractal dimensions of three time series are non-integers,these time series are characteristic of fractal in the studied scale. The Hurst exponents at three positions are more than 0.5 but less than 1.0.This result shows that formation process of carbon element distribution along casting direction in continuous casting billet can be described as Fractional Brownian Motion, and there is a positive long-range correlation between different points at a certain position. Moreover,as the Hurst exponent at V-shaped segregation band is the smallest and the most close to 0.5,the stochastic extent at this position is the largest.
