Experiment Study on the Liquid Metal Flow in Narrow-Side-Patter Magnetic Field

  A physical model with mercury was developed to investigate the control of the narrow-side-patter magnetic field on the flow in medium and slab continuous casting mold.The velocity in mold with and without magnetic field was measured by Ultrasonic Doppler Velocity.The influence of the magnetic field on the horizontal velocity of free level,fluctuation of free level and penetrating depth are investigated.The results showed that the speed and rate of raising flow in the upper recirculation zone is reduced,the active degree about free level is dropped,the stability of horizontal flow in free level is strengthened; The fluctuation of free level is reduced to be in favour of reducing entrapment of steel liquid; the penetrating depth is reduced to promote more uniformity of metal liquid in whole flowing field and plug–like flow is formed more easily.
