Research on the Melting and Fluidity Characteristics of Ce2O3 Contained Refining Slag for Steelmaking

  It has been showed in a previous research that activity of Al2O3 decreased with the addition of Ce2O3.Based on this finding,quaternary refining slags containing Ce2O3 were designed in present work.Effect of ceria on melting temperature and viscosity of these refining slags was also examined.Quaternary refining slags containing Ce2O3 were prepared in a vacuum carbon tube furnace in this research.Phase detection of slags was achieved with X-ray diffraction analysis.Melting temperatures and viscosities were measured with a melting point detector and a viscometer type (model RTW-10),respectively.Results showed that cerium was stable in +3 state in refining slags.Melting temperatures and viscosities of the CaO-Al2O3-Ce2O3-SiO2 refining slags were measured in the range of 1348~1361℃and 0.289~0.497 Pa? s(1500℃),respectively.The 46%CaO-38%Al2O3-5%Ce2O3-10%SiO2 slag showed good melting and fluidity properties.Therefore,good melting and fluidity characteristics of refining slag can be achieved with the appropriate addition of Ce2O3.
