Effect of MgO-Bearing Additive on Metallurgical Property of Pellets

The caustic calcined magnesite is used as an additive to produce oxidized pellet. The charterers of caustic calcined magnesite are analyzed. The effects of its addition on metallurgical properties are also investigated including compressive strength (CS),the low-temperature reduction degradation index (RDI),and the reduction swelling index (RSI).It is found that the caustic calcined magnesite roasted at 850°C demonstrates better grindability, larger specific surface area, and higher reactive. The results shown that: 1) the addition of caustic calcined magnesite can improve the quality of the pellets. With the addition of caustic calcined magnesite content increases, the RDI and RSI of pellets decrease significantly; 2) when the content of caustic calcined magnesite is less than 2.0% in pellets, the CS is lowered slightly, but still over 2689N/pellet,which can meet the requirement of blast furnace process.
