Effect of C、N on the Impact Property of Ferritic Stainless Steels
Ferritic stainless steels containing carbon and nitrogen between 150×10-6 and 300×10-6 will be defined high pure ferritic stainless steels. Those steels containing carbon and nitrogen less than 150×10-6 are called ultra pure ferritic stainless steels.Carbon and nitrogen directly impact on microstructure and properties of ferritic stainless steels. In this paper, effect of carbon and nitrogen on the impact properties of ferritic stainless steels was investigated by the impact testing machine with optical microscope (OM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM).The mechanism of carbon and nitrogen affecting the impact properties of ferritic stainless steels was conformed through analyzing the fracture surface and microstructure of ferritic stainless steels. The results showed that the impact energy of ferritic stainless steels increased with the higher content of carbon and nitrogen.
