Study and application of low emission binders for MgO-C refractories
The binder system of MgO-C materials.is mainly responsible for the flexibility of the structure.Low emission bonding system were investigated and applied to MgO-C products in this work. The specimens with different amount of eco-friendly resin powders and additions were prepared The Bulk density,CCS,AP (after coking ) and HMOR(at 1400℃) were tested and contrasted. With this new bonding type, the amount of metallic additions can be decreased. The microstructure of binders is anisotropic structure which improves their oxidation resistance and thermal shock resistance. The LCH of the specimens with new bonding system shows that MgO-C bricks have good mechanical flexibility and the ability to absorb stresses. The new MgO-C products were produced and have field tests in slag lining of VD steel ladle. The result shows that the MgO-C bricks have good physical properties and excellent workability. In contrast with traditional MgO-C brick, the tendency to spalling of the the new product could be reduced significantly and the average lining life were improved.
