Effects of Rare Earths on Microstructure and Properties of WC-8wt%Co Cemented Carbide Produced from Zinc Process Reclaimed Powder
Both WC-8wt%Co (YG8) and rare earths (RE) doped WC-8wt%Co (YG8R) cemented carbides are fabricated from zinc process reclaimed WC/8wt%Co powder mix.The effects of doped yttrium on the microstructure, properties and performances of regenerated alloys are investigated. The results reveal that there are coarse Ca-S inclusions in YG8 alloy, however, only ultrafine(smaller than 0.5 μm) and dispersed spherical Y-Ca-S-O phase can be found in YG8R alloy so as to improving the morphology, size and distribution of the defects.Compared with YG8,the density, hardness and WC grain size of YG8R are similar but the TRS and cutting life are increased to the equal level of original cemented carbide with same grade.
