Oxidation,Mechanical Properties of TiAlN and TiAlSiN Coatings Deposited on WC-(Ti,Ta,Nb)C-Co Cemented Carbide

  TiAlN and TiAlSiN coatings were deposited on WC-(Ti,Ta,Nb)C-Co substrates by the cathodic arc evaporation technique.Microstructure structure,antioxidation and mechanical properties of coatings were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD),scanning electron microscope/Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (SEM/EDS),micro and nano-indentation measurement,nano-scratch tester and high temperature oxidation experiment.With the incorporation of Si,the mean crystallite sizes of TiAlN coating decrease from 23.33 nm to 13.56 nm,the thickness of oxidized layer of TiAlN coating decrease from 1.63 μm to 0.643 μm after oxidation at 900 ℃ for 2 h.Due to the addition of Si,the nano-hardness of TiAlN coating improve from 28.32 GPa to 38.5 GPa,the micro-hardness of TiAlN coated cemented carbide also increase as-deposited and after oxidation at 800 ℃ for 15 min with the loads from 0.05 kgf to 0.5 kgf.However,the adhesion of TiAlSiN coating to substrate is worse than that of TiAlN coating.
