Study on the Wear Characteristics of PCB and Cemented Carbide Friction Pair

In order to study the wear mechanism of cemented carbide micro-drills when drilling printed circuit boards (PCBs),this paper studied the wear characteristics of PCB and cemented carbide friction pair. The adhesion of resin on micro-drills was studied. The corrosion between cemented carbide and copper, resin or glass fibers of PCB was investigated. The pin-plate friction and wear test and the sliding friction and wear test of PCB and cemented carbide friction pair are done.It is found that the temperature of adhesion occurred is about 8 ℃.The adhesion is more serious as the friction temperature increases. The corrosion wear does not occur when the micro-drills drilling PCB.The friction temperature of the friction pair increases with the linear velocity but decreases afterwards when the linear velocity is high enough. The friction temperature and the friction coefficient increases with the load acting on the friction pair. The friction coefficient increases sharply in the beginning of friction and become stable afterwards. To decrease the wear of micro-drills when drilling PCB,a suitable linear velocity and low load should be enforced.
