Influence of Biota on Low Molecular Weight Organic Acids in Soil Solutions of Taiga and Tundra Soils in the East-European Russia

By the methods of chromatography-mass-spectroscopy and gas-liquid chromatography, the formation mechanisms of water-soluble low molecular weight (LMW) organic acids in the soils on silicate rocks Haplic Albeluvisols (HA),Stagnic Albeluvisols (SA),and Stagnic Cambisols (SC) have been identified.Content of acids varies within the limits of 1-14 mg dm3 that corresponds to 1%-5% when converted to carbon of water-soluble organic soil compounds. The specificity of the Stagnic Albeluvisols is high concentration of LMW organic acids, first of all of the strongest acids as aliphatic oxyacids.Their possible formation and accumulation mechanisms in soils have been reviewed.
